- OBJECTIVES
- The Division concern itself with establishing feasible guidelines for pesticides applications. To achieve this goal, the toxicity and efficacy test of pesticides for major pests, improvement of pest control techniques development of integrated crop management programs were the major research topics to provide farmers with safe, economic and effective means of using plant protection tactics. In recent years, the Division has successfully developed IPM programs for grape and mango orchards, respectively. Baseline toxicity data were established for Phytophthora, Colletotrichum, Botrytis, Plasmopara, as well as many post-harvest diseases. The Division also completed an IPM program for major insect pests on the cruciferous crops and a simple and effective sampling plan for thrips on eggplants. In addition, monitoring and forecasting techniques were established for the Oriental fruit fly and important plant diseases. The Division plans to focus on establishing basic toxicity and efficacy data in using pesticides on major pests, improving ICM programs for major crop-systems, and actively engaging in the nationwide Plant Health Information Center.
